Aamir Khan to close Golden Elephant festival

Bollywood star Aamir Khan will be guest of honor at the Golden Elephant 15th International Children’s Film Festival in Hyderabad on 20th November. Awards for best creations in Asian Panorama and International competition sections will be given away at that function.

The Children’s festival is to start on Children’s day, November 14th in the presence of Andhra C.M., Y.S. Rajashekhara Reddy, Information and Broadcasting minister Priyaranjan Das Munsi and other dignitaries.

Thailand’s Khan Kluay, an animated feature will open about a series of 119 films being screened over a week till November 20. Over 40 will compete in the international section and another 20 will vie in the Asian Panorama section.

This festival is held every alternative year by the Children Festival society of India. This year there were 300 entries from 40 countries.

The biannual festival has six sections- International competition, Asian panorama, the Children’s world, Special Screenings, creative workshops, and Special events for children.

The international jury is headed by famous short filmmaker Mike Pandey and is made of veteran filmmaker V G Samant, New Zealand producer Mathew Horrocks, Australian Andi Spark, journalist Vasiraju Prakasam, and writer K.V. Krisna Kumari.

The Asian Panorama jury has actors, directors and animators. The children’s jury is also set up to incorporate children’s viewpoint.

There are 26 films in the noncompetitive children’s world and 20 films in special screenings. The children’s jury will award a golden plaque and Rs 1 Lakh cash prize to their choice. The festival is set to attract over 300 children age 10 to 16 years as state guests.

The main venue of the festival is the IMAX theatre and more films will be screened in other theatres like Sudha, Ravindra, Aradhana, Sairanga and Hari Kala Bhavan. As many as one lakh children can watch films during the festival according to officials.
