Eklavya: The Royal Guard receives a U from the Censor Board

Eklavya: The Royal Guard is a multi-starrer Bollywood film directed by Vidhu Vinod Chopra which will be released on 16 February 2007. It stars Amitabh Bachchan, Sharmila Tagore, Sanjay Dutt, Saif Ali Khan, Vidya Balan, Raima Sen, Jackie Shroff, Jimmy Shergill and Boman Irani.The film received a U-certificate from the Censor Board without a single cut.

Eklavya: The Royal Guard is a thriller which tells the story of Eklavya, (Amitabh Bachchan), whose family has guarded the Kings of Devigarh for nine generations. The film is set in contemporary India. Prince Harshwardhan (Saif Ali Khan) returns for the funeral of his mother, Queen Suhasinidevi (Sharmila Tagore), and becomes involved in consequent intrigue.

The music for Eklavya has been composed by Shantanu Moitra, who proved his mettle by providing lilting tunes in Parineeta and Lage Raho Munnabhai.
The film is a contemporary dramatic action-thriller about Eklavya, loyal guardian of a royal dynasty whose duty is to protect the erstwhile royal family in Devigarh, Rajasthan. While Saif Ali Khan plays Prince Harshwardhan, Sanjay Dutt plays an irreverent police inspector.

Jackie Shroff takes on the role of the King’s scheming brother, his son played by Jimmy Sheirgill. Vidya Balan provides the romantic angle as the Prince’s childhood love.Set in present day India, the film has a special resonance for today’s world, beleaguered by hate and violence born from fanatic belief.

Eklavya marks the return of Vidhu Vinod Chopra to direction after a gap of seven years.In the past, he has delivered hits such as Parinda, 1942-A Love Story, Mission Kashmir, Munnabhai MBBS, Parineeta and Lage Raho Munnabhai.
