Angelina Jolie brings cheer to refugee kids on Christmas day
Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie ditched the trappings of Hollywood parties on Christmas Day to give presents to children of refugees in Costa Rica. Angelina, a goodwill ambassador for the UN High Commissioner for Refugees, was there with her boyfriend, Troy star Brad Pitt. Most of the children they met were Colombian refugees.

Angelina Jolie said: “We had a marvellous Christmas Day with the Costa Rican people and the families of the Colombian refugees that we met.” The couple, who spent the day in San Jose, have three children, two of them adopted.
Angelina Jolie continued her goodwill efforts around the world and spent Christmas Day with refugees in the Costa Rican capital of San Jose. Star magazine reported that the actress went to the capital as an ambassador for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees with her partner Brad Pitt. The couple distributed presents to the children from the neighbouring, war-torn country of Columbia.
The Angelina Jolie quoted , “We had a wonderful Christmas both with the Costa Rican people and the Colombian refugee families we met. My Christmas message to Colombian refugees and to the millions of displaced people in Colombia is that the world has not totally forgotten them.”
Monsters and Critics reports that the region is home to about 11,500 refugees because of the fight between leftist guerillas, soldiers, and paramilitary forces. Angelina Jolie herself was quoted by the website, “The conflict in Colombia is the greatest humanitarian tragedy in the Western Hemisphere, but it receives very little international attention. My Christmas message to Colombian refugees and to the millions of displaced people in Colombia is that the world has not totally forgotten them.'’
The 11,500 refugees in Costa Rica are nothing compared to how many other Columbian refugees have been displaced worldwide. M&C reports that an estimated three million Columbians have been forced from their homes over the last two decades. While most of them stay in Columbia, essentially becoming refugees in their own countries, around half a million have fled to other regions. Angelina Jolie reached out to the world to address the problem, saying “The best present we can give refugees is often a little more understanding and good will, not just at Christmas but all year long.”
Just 24 hours before, Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt were living a totally different existence in Costa Rica, finishing a world-class Christmas vacation in luxury, even though it was only four and a half hours away from where the couple visited refugees the next day. Angelina Jolie, Brad Pitt, and their adopted son, Maddox, spent the weekend around the holiday at the Four Seasons Resort in Guanacaste on Peninsula Papagayo in Costa Rica.

i truly admired angie and brad for their kindhearts for spending christmas day with the refugees, instead of hollywoods. paris, britney, nicole ritchie and lidsay lohan REALLY should put their times into good use, instead of being dramatic queens! i applaud brad and angie for their good deeds. we are lucky to have brad and angie for a couple, especially a couple with great hearts…..
