Mani high hopes from Abhi- Aishwarya Rai ’s ” Guru “

Mani Ratnam gives finishing touches to this ambitious project titled Guru. He has a lots of hope from it.He admits,”Though the film has some uncanny resemblances to the life of the industrialist Dhirubhai Ambani, Mani insists the plot in his latest film Guru is rooted to a cinematic reality.”

This was the first time that Mani Ratnam, finding it difficult to get a star for his next, Guru. Ratnam has signed Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai as the lead pair of his film, while Vidya Balan has been finalised as the second lead. Actor R. Madhavan plays a journalist for the first time in Mani Rathnam’s film. Madhavan was very delighted to work with the ace Tamil director again.Also this is the second time Mani is working with Aishwarya,first was, ‘Irruvar ‘.

Junior Bachchan will have two heroine- Ash and Vidya Balan. A.R.Rahman will be the music director with Gulzar’s lyrics. Rajeev Menon will be the cameraman and he is teaming up with Mani sir after 10 long years after Bombay.

Anurag Kashyap will helm the Hindi dialogues and the film is set in Mumbai. Mani sir hopes to prove his detractors wrong that he has not been able to taste commercial success in Hindi so far. Guru will start rolling by March.

When asked about ‘Yuva’s failure Mani sir explains, ” There is always room to try something new. Be it in content or form or look. And when you do try something new there is always a chance that that it may not connect fully with the audience. That is a risk that a filmmaker has to take. If you take the credit when it works you have to take the blame when a film does not. But that should not stop you from growing and take a few more steps ahead. That’s where Guru has taken me. ”
