Himesh Reshammiya accused for violation of the Copyright Act

For the new musical icon of India, Himesh Reshammiya, it was more a merry-go-round year as he delivered around 31 hit tracks in this year. After ravaging the world of music, Himesh is now all prepared to record his foot prints in the sands of acting. His debut film as an actor is - Aap Ka Suroor – The Moviee – The Real Luv Story.

Himesh unveiled the promos of his film at a recent concert in the Wembely Stadium, London, which was attended by over 10,000 people, mostly non-resident Indians in Britain’. The movie made with a budget of Rs 75 crore plus would be shot in locations in Australia and New Zealand. The film is set to hit screens in June 2007.

The singer-composer informed that the film is an account of his own love story. The movie will make an end of all enquiries like why he always loses girls in his videos, why he always wears a cap, or why he doesn’t ever smile. It is for the first time Himesh he will appear without his trademark cap. The response of the promo was also a welcome note for him.

However, things proved to be quite bitter for Himesh with producer Boney Kapoor accusing him of violating the copyright act. Reshammiya had scored the music for Kapoor’s film ‘Milenge Milenge’ staring Kareena Kapoor, Shahid Kapur and Salman Khan. The controversy cropped up with Himesh using the song ‘Tanhaaiyaan’ in his debut film ‘Aap Ka Suroor’, the music for which was composed by him. Boney Kapoor claimed that the song ‘Tanhaaiyaan’ was recorded by Himesh for his film ‘Milenge Milenge’, which is yet to go on the floors. Boney Kapoor regarded this act as a sheer violation of the copyright act.

Himesh, on the other hand had his own version of this episode. He said, ‘Tanhaaiyaan’is my song, composed, sung and even recorded by me, totally at my cost. Since I am the music composer of Boney Kapoor’s movie, many months ago, I did make him listen to this song.’ He added that as the song did not fit in Boney Kapoor’s film, so he decided to use it in his debut film.
The audio right of Milenge Milenge is with Tips who are in fact airing this song in various TV channels. Whereas, audio right of Reshammiya’s Aap Ka Suroor is with T-Series. This war is expected to take an interesting turn, because either of the film will have to wipe it from their musical itinerary.
