Abhishek Bachchan & Urmila to perform item number in Ramu’s Sholay

Ram Gopal Varma (RGV) and his films are different in the sense that they are a genre of their own. The remake of the classic Sholay is expected to be an interesting watch. The bad man-Gabbar Singh’s role will be played by Amitabh Bachchan who played the role of Jai in the earlier one. The role reversal of the remake is probably the key for added interest.

The next issue before RGV was to decide about the cast of Jai. Initially Abhishek Bachchan was offered to perform the role of Veeru, which he declined due to date problems. Incidentally, Veeru’s part is now being played by Ajay Devgan. As per latest developments, the Jr. Bachchan will be seen in the film, but in an unexpected character. He will be found dancing with Urmila Matondkar in the chartbuster ‘Mehbooba o Mehbooba’, the track of which was composed by Ganesh Hedge.

Abhishek and Urmila will be playing the part which Jalal Agha and Helen played in the original film. While they dance, the bad man Gabbar, that is, Amitabh bachchan will be an observer. Mohit Ahlawat will play the part of Jai and Mohanlal will be seen in the role of Thakur, which was played by Sanjeev Kumar. The much talkative role of Basanti played by Hema Malini in the original version will now be played by Nisha Kothari while Sushmita Sen will be playing the part of Jaya Bhaduri.

Regarding roping in Abhishek Bachchan, Ram Gopal Varma said, ‘He’s really excited about it. He himself volunteered to do it’. The Big B of Bollywood is also enthusiastic about his role in the film. He said, ‘The memories of Sholay will always be with me when I shoot for this film but as an artist I have to close that window and open a new chapter for the new Sholay’ The making of the film is expected to be over by April 2007 and would be ready for release in May 2007.
