Angelina Jolie Praises India’s attitude towards Refugees
Hollywood diva Angelina Jolie because of her strong social commitment was selected as the Goodwill Ambassador of UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in the year 2001
In this connection, Angelina along with her five-year-old son Maddox met the Sikh Afghan and Myanmarese refugees in Delhi on Saturday.
On Sunday, she had an hour long meeting with the Minister of State for External Affairs, Anand Sharma along with UN officials and discussed issues concerning refugees and children at the Hyderabad House at New Delhi. Sporting a black floral printed outfit, Jolie reached the majestic venue where the talks were held. Her star husband Brad Pitt was also in Delhi but did not accompany Jolie to Hyderabad House.
She expressed heartfelt thanks to the Government of India for ‘longstanding hospitality to refugees’. For the actress, it has been an honour to work for the orphan children. She further said that, ‘It is an honour for me to work for children who have become orphans. There are many, many needs for your own people and yet you have all been so gracious and been so open to many many refugees over the years’. In the capacity of UN Goodwill Ambassador, Angelina Jolie visited many South Asian countries, like, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Afghanistan.
She had put up in a hotel in Connaught Place, New Delhi. Angelina Jolie has been in Pune together with Brad Pitt since last month and is busy shooting for “A Mighty Heart,” a film on the ‘Wall Street Journal’ journalist-Daniel Pearl who was abducted and slain by militants in Pakistan in 2002. She plays Pearl’s widow Mariane in the film.
