UNHCR Goodwill Ambassador Angelina Jolie meet refugees in Delhi
Apart from being a superstar of the silver screen, Hollywood diva Angelina Jolie has also got a strong commitment for the global social cause. She was selected as the Goodwill Ambassador of UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in the year 2001. In this connection, Angelina along with her five-year-old son Maddox met the Sikh Afghan and Myanmarese refugees in Delhi on Saturday.

Sporting a white T-shirt and blue jeans, Angelina Jolie went to the refugee camps jointly run by the Khalsa Diwan Welfare Society and UNHCR in the Capital. She spoke with the refugee women and listened to their woes with apt attention. The Sikh children greeted her by playing religious music, which was also enjoyed by her child. Around 1750 refugees from Myanmar were there in the camp.
Angelina Jolie has been in Pune together with Brad Pitt since last month and is busy shooting for “A Mighty Heart,” a film on the ‘Wall Street Journal’ journalist-Daniel Pearl who was abducted and slain by militants in Pakistan in 2002. She plays Pearl’s widow Mariane in the film.
In the capacity of UN Goodwill Ambassador, Angelina Jolie visited many South Asian countries, like, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Afganisthan. On Sunday, Jolie is scheduled to meet the Minister of State for External Affairs, Anand Sharma along with UN officials and discuss issues concerning refugees and children. She expressed heartfelt thanks to the Government of India for ‘longstanding hospitality to refugees’.
