Cricket : Chappell and Dravid criticised for defeat of Team India
After facing defeat at the hands of West Indies, India was once again defeated by Australia on Sunday in the ICC Champions Trophy, 2006. This has led to a countrywide debate criticizing the policy of experimentation carried on by Coach Greg Chappell and Captain Rahul Dravid.
Rahul Dravid">In their stipulated 50 overs, India scored 249 runs loosing 8 wickets. In reply, Australia won the match by scoring 252 at the loss of 3 wickets. Indian weak and unplanned bowling fort was broken by Australian batsmen with ease. The decision of the Coach and the Captain to play with 7 batsmen and only 3 bowlers was seen by the experts as a whimsical one.
People from various parts of the country including many veteran cricketers are not at all happy with the performance of Team India. Those who have watched Sunday’s match will agree that Rahul Dravid as a captain lacked the killer urge. Irfan Pathan was unimpressive. In the search of perfect eleven, too much permutation and combination is made in the Indian team, which proved to be destructive in matches against country like Australia.
This unhealthy experimentation has again triggered the controversy about the role of Greg Chappell as the coach and the qualities of Rahul Dravid as a captain. A veteran player was found to air the view that, ‘Team India is lacking the qualities of a dashing Captain like Saurav Gangully. If Greg Chappell and Rahul Dravid are so keen on doing experiment, then they can also experiment once with Gangully’. Well, it could only be hoped that Team India gets back its rhythm and a perfect squad of 11 players.

I think khan’s view is the most practical one I have read recently… so I am glad that ’sense’ does prevail somewhere.
Not being very harsh, guys, let us accept that we Indians are basically inconsistent. Not just the cricket team, but all of us… you want examples !?
1) 27% of office going Indians are late to work everyday!
2) Between 9a - 5p, an avg. Indian works less than 4 hrs.
… so why do we only criticize the cricket team !?
WE ARE INCONSISTENT, plain and simple. This is the same team that won 17 games when chasing in a row, won 21 out of 24 games before WI tour!
Lets not expect miracles. Just hope that everything clicks properly for us during WC, 07. Remember that, it is the same lot that can win the WC for you or crash out in the 1st round!

surely bringing back sourav ganguly, who has forgotten how to play cricket as evidenced by his recent run of poor form and lack of athletic competence, would change india’s fortunes, right?what a distorted reality that many indian fans live in!! How can anyone blame Rahul Dravid when there is zero talent in their bowling line-up? India’s fortunes will probably not change because of sheer incompetence of a bowling attack that is definitely amongst the world’s worst any given day!!As for Ganguly, when was the last time he was actually making runs for India beside just captaining the side…atleast rahul dravid makes runs most of the time but unfortunately has to lead a team of bowlers who would have to fight for a place in their regional teams had they been born in places like pakistan, australia,or south africa..What a bunch of absolute garbage!!
