Shahrukh Khan’s Don : One more review

The makers of the much hyped ‘Don’ and ‘Jaan-E-Mann’ wished to offer a treat for the eyes and refresh the mind of the viewers in the season of Diwali and Id. However, the big hype created by both these films evaporated as these were almost unsuccessful in keeping upto the expectations and parameters set by the makers of the movies.

It’s really a tough job to say who among the two Khans, that is, Salman Khan or Shahrukh Khan won the war of popularity on day one.

Produced by Ritesh Sidhwani and directed by Farhan Akhtar, ‘Don’ stars Shahrukh Khan, Priyanka Chopra, Kareena Kapoor, Isha Koppikar and Arjun Rampal. Remakes have got a great problem and in the case of Don, things were much problematic as because the nostalgic parameters set-up by the larger than life image of Amitabh Bachchan could hardly be washed off from the mind by even the die-hard fans of Shahrukh Khan. Many looked for but missed that flavour of the songs like ‘Khai ke paan Benaras wala’. However for the generation X and Y, the presence of the beauties- Priyanka Chopra, Kareena Kapoor, Isha Koppikar was enough for them to whistle and giggle.

Bachchan’s Don released in 1978 was a super hit. Khan’s version though almost same was shot mainly in Malaysia and not Mumbai where the former one was filmed. However, Khan’s designer dress was again an object praised highly by the youth. But curiously enough, the Don Bachchan himself does not want to compare his role with that of Shahrukh. Both the old and the new Don’s atched the screening of the film together and the initial success response was fine.

However, Farhan Akhtar, the young director of Don admits ‘I remember being really scared of the guy (character of Big B) but at the same time totally mesmerized by him. It is with this passion for the character and the film that I set out to recreate the persona for moviegoers today’. The film had overwhelming response from the cine goers in UK. So it would be wait and watch for the film to ravage the box-office in India.
