‘Rang de Basanti’, India’s entry for the Oscars.
Rang De Basanti, a film that visualizes the course of modern day patriotism and one of Bollywood’s biggest blockbusters of the year, will be India’s entry to the Oscar in the Best Foreign Film category. The blockbuster will be Amir Khan’s second film to make it as India’s entry to the Oscars after “Lagaan”.

“This year, there were eight films in contention, including Lage Raho Munnabhai, Krissh and Omkara, but the jury chose Rang De Basantiâ€Â, Film Federation of India member, Mr. Suparn Sen said.
“This year, it was a tough call because there were so many quality films in the running, Rang De Basanti stood out for its cinematic quality, its script. It is a very contemporary film and overall we thought it would be a good choice. Now let us see what they (the Academy) think,†chairman of the jury and noted filmmaker Basu Chatterjee said.

Directed by Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra’s, the film stars Aamir Khan, Atul Kulkarni, Siddarth, Sharman Joshi, R Madhavan, Soha Ali Khan, Kunal Kapoor and Anupam Kher. The movie tells the story of seven youngsters and how they go from being carefree college students to revolt against the government system due to the occurrence of a tragic incident.
“We shall make every effort to ensure it is seen by as wide an audience as possible internationally too,” said Ronnie Screwvala, CEO of UTV, the producers of “Rang De”. Best of luck from desifans.com to a deserving movie !!
