Box Office 16th Sept : Pyar Ke Side Effects survives, Shiva sinks

Mallika Sherawat in her new incarnation as the girl next door with all clothes on has her new movie Pyar Ke Side Effect opening strong at the box office. Pyar Ke Side Effects saw the best opening of about 30% at multiplexes and it may have outside chance of recovery.

Ram Gopal Verma’s Shiva bombed at the box office. Its just a repeat of his older movies with repeat stars Mohit Ahlawat and Nisha Kothari. Sadak, Shiva and Bas Ek Pal ( Urmila Mataundkar, Juhi Chawla) all new releases open to a poor response and poor reports. Looks like Vivek Oberio ’s lady luck has left him and even Sunny Deol could not save Naksha. Dil Diya Hai has been declared a flop. Lage Raho Munnabhi and Gandhigiri is on the rise … on a dream run and may have created a new second week record. Delhi/UP and East Punjab see just a 20-25% drop in second week. Mumbai is extraordinary with a share of over 8 crore in 2 weeks. The film is heading for 60 crore nett business.

Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna in its fifth week is already a hit and doing well. If overseas business was measured in the same way as India in the trade then Lage Raho Munnabhai would be one of the biggest hits ever in that circuit. The film was sold for 5 crore in Overseas which is much cheaper than the 8 crore that the likes of Rang De Basanti and Krrish fetched. In 10 days, Lage Raho Munnabhai has managed to get a share of 7.50 crore from Overseas.

For the first time since Gadar there is a chance that the second week business of a film will be better than the first week in Delhi City with Lage Raho Munnabhai. This would be an amazing achievement because Delhi is one of the hardest if not hardest market to get consistent collections from. Also for a major film released on a good number of cinemas it will only be the second time this has ever happened.
