Ram Gopal Varma back with Shiva

Ram Gopal Varma is back at the theatres with the newer version of his debut film Shiva. It is not a sequel, but it is similar to Shiva where the protagonist fights against the system and wins. A good old formula but RGV is nostalgic.

In this version of Shiva, Mohit Ahlawat fights the world and the law enforcement system as young policeman and Nisha Kothari is his partner in this mission. Fifteeen years back Nagarjuna and Amla fought against the goondaism in the college system. Ram Gopal Varma presents the problems of the society in a new light and in a different context.

RGV believes that Mohit Ahlawat is superstar material, so much that even after the debacle of RGV’s Mohit Ahlawat and Nisha Kothari (same pair) James. It needs to be pointed that James too was a one man’s fight against the world. When sequels are working well in the box office with Krrish and Phir Hera Pheri doing great, is the “new version of Shiva” is just a promotional tag ?

But the prolific movie maker has his reasons. “.. the intention is to bring back the intense hero, who ruled the 70s and 80s before he was sent into oblivion by the sugary sweet romantic films. It was that hero, who actually made films larger than life with Amitabh Bachchan leading the brigade..” says RGV. Nostalgia is surely in the air and RGV has signed up the musical maestro Ilayaraja for this film. The movie “factory” of RGV does not believe in Karan Johar kind of “sugary romance” and called KANK a “horror” movie But thats good news for macho man Mohit Ahlawat. As for the Shiva new version, let us hope its better than James.
