Will Baghdatis allow Andrew Agassi To Delay His Farewell?

The 36-year old American, who is retiring after his 21st straight campaign at Flushing Meadows, had to dig late against Andrei Pavel just to reach the second round in the US Open.

And now he has to take on the rising Cypriot star Marcos Baghdatis, a former junior No.1, who reached the Australian Open final in January, losing to Roger Federer, and the Wimbledon semi-finals in July, losing to Nadal.

For the past 18 months Agassi needed regular cortisone injections in his back just to have any chance of competing.

“When you look at a year like I’ve had, it’s easy to wish you didn’t have to go through it,” he said.

“I needed to because for me I wanted to make sure I had given everything I can and to do this as long and hard as possible.”
