A look at Hrishikesh Mukherjee ’s career.
Hrishikesh Mukherjee is no more but his movies will be here to entertain us and remind us of the legendary director. Hrishikesh Mukherjee gave us Anand, Abhimann, Chupke Chupke and Golmaal. It was movies like Anand and Abhiman which brought into limelight the acting genius of Amitabh Bachchan. Born in Kolkata in 1922, Hrishikesh Mukherjee started his film career as a lab assistant in New Theatres, Kolkata, in 1945 and in his 40 year career directed around 50 movies and was awarded the presitigious filmmaking award, the Dadasaheb Phalke, in 2000.

Rajesh Khanna was the reigning superstar when he acted in Hrishikesh-da’s Anand which catapulted Amitabh Bachchan into stardom and paved the path for the next superstar BigB. “Mukherjee will be with us forever. Every morning, I will remember him and the thoughts he gave me,” said Rajesh Khanna who starred in Bawarchi and Anand.
Hrishikesh Mukherjee started his career with Musafir in 1957 and his last movie was Jhooth Bole Kauwa Kaate in 1998. His comedies Gol Maal and Bawarchi are still considered among the best comedies Bollywood ever produced. A list of Hrishida’s memorable movies:
