Cincinnati tennis: Sania Mirza in quarters of singles, doubles
New Delhi, July 20 : Sania Mirza will meet top seed Patty Schnyder of Switzerland in a quarter-final match of the $175,000 Cincinnati Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) tournament in Mason, the US.
Sania, ranked 40th by WTA, defeated Finland’s Emma Laine 6-1, 0-6, 6-1 in the second round to reach her first quarter-finals of the season, the official WTA website said.
The 19-year-old Indian and her Polish partner Marta Domachowska are also through to the quarter-finals of the doubles competition. They will play Varvara Lepchenko of Uzbekistan and China’s Meng Yuan for a spot in the semi-finals.
However, India’s Shikha Uberoi and Canadian partner Maureen Drake lost 6-0, 1-6, 3-6 to top seeds Maria Elena Camerin of Italy and Argentine Gisela Dulko.
