With Cafu and Roberto Carlos bidding good bye to the Seleção, its time for a new captain to lead. He will be outstanding, responsible and consistant. These are the names I received from Bernando, Nicholas Savage, Fred Rupen and Oscar.

I do not know if I am qualified to express my opinion here as I do not know much about the other players. I would say if I have to pick between Ronaldinho and Ronaldo, I would pick Ronaldinho. Rather I would think anyone would be better than Ronaldo. I think his days are numbered. He was once a great player but I saw a very different attitude during this world cup.. a pretty take-it-easy attitude from Ronaldo ... as if he had nothing to prove and not much to achieve. Such a player is a liability and can bring a team down. IMO I think Ronaldo was one of the big reasons why Brazil could not win this world cup.
ON the other hand, Ronaldinho inspired the whole team with his performance and energy. He has been the fifa player of the year twice in a row but he gave his 100% and was giving his best. With a lot of years to follow and a priceless attitude I would rank Ronaldinho as one of the best complete soccer players I saw this world cup. An ever smiling face, a give-it-all approach and a team player... this is the kind of player I would want as a captain !! It goes much beyond how you play.. as a captain you need to be an example to the team.. and Ronaldinho fits the bill !!!

First of all ur you dont need to be so modest dude. You know ur stuff. Welcome aboard.
Second of all Ronaldo is not one of the big reason why the Seleção lost. Yes he was not his usual self and CAP should have taken him off in the very first place which he failed.
Third of all Ronaldinho was not up to his mark too. He did howlers during the Aussie match and he got his shimmies back on track during the Japan and Ghana match.
Players of the Seleção who did well was Dida, Lucio, Ze Roberto, Juninho Pernambucano, Juan, Emerson and Robinho.
Ronaldinho and Kaka were mediocre.
Ronaldo between mediocre and poor
Adriano poor.

If Juninho did not retire I wud have begged Oscar to include Juninho's name in the poll. He's my fav and Lyon is Lyon thanx to him.
But as of now I have to say Emerson. He was after all the original captain for the 2002 squad. Big Phil has always been praises of Emerson and its evident why. How many midfielders do you have out there who has focus of what they do? How many midfielders do you have out there who tackles gracefully with limited fouls? How many midfielders do you have out there who can defend so well that he can be passed as a key defender? I hated him for playing in Juventus and now I love him for playing in Madrid. He's in demand and once the FIFA Technical whizz acknowledge your strenght and ability, its a big deal.
Put him on a pedestal and just draw it out. He fits it well. The captain of the Seleção has a special trait. Calmity. Thats a key substance. A role model.
And to add on Emerson and Dida were featured during the 1998 WC. Emerson played but Dida was benched.

Ronaldo is not one of the BIG reason why the Seleção lost. He is not the one controlling the game. I do agree that its not the same Ronaldo as how he used to be but I will certainly not put the blame on him. IMO, the whole team did not perform up to par. If I really want to put the blame on someone...I would probably to do by blaming Roberto Carlos. The whole world saw what had happened. He failed to mark Henry and thats a catastrophic mistake. Of course we have seen teams coming up at the end when they were trailing. Germany scored a goal thru Miroslav Klose during the QF against Argentina. It was in the 84th minute I reckon. And the 2 late goals by Italy during the SF against Germany. The team on the whole didn perform well and ther's no point of pointing fingers.
Tho ppl criticise Ronaldinho, I still feel that he was good if not excellant during the recent WC. We saw his streak during the Japan and Ghana match. I saw him orchastrating a good one with Kaka to jump in. In fact I believe that the Japan and Ghana matches could be argued as the Seleção's best performance.
And I agree to Degz arguments...Ronaldinho failed during the Australia match.
But having said that...Ronaldinho is still my baby and hero. He is a really good and talented player and he will definately buck up. The whole team will learn from the bitter experience.
As for Ronaldo...Well I still love him. He's a legend and I wonr be surprised if he shapes up and come back with a bang.
But honestly I dont see Ronaldo as a captain nor do I see it in Ronaldinho. As said...we want a person who can inspire and tho both the R's do inspire...we want more. A role model. For me by choice is Dida, Emerson and Lucio. I was thinking of Gilberto Silva but my previous 3 remains strong.

Emerson. He has the experience having appeared in the 1998 and 2006 World Cup. Original captain for the 2002 World Cup. We have seen him lead in may other matches which does not involve high level international stint. Very very focus and driven. Ih he was the first choice of captaincy for the 2002 World Cup and that by Big Phil, then its safe to say that placing the band on Emerson is all justified.

Am not to pleased with Ronaldinho being the captain. Dida, Lucio, and Emerson deserve that band more that Ronaldinho. Gilberto Silva gets my nod too. He was very very crucial during the 2002 games.
