Inter Milan assigned league title stripped from Juventus
MILAN, Italy (AP) - Inter Milan was declared Serie A champion Wednesday after a sports tribunal stripped Juventus of the title in Italy's match fixing-scandal.
The Italian soccer federation said the title was assigned to Inter because it was the highest-ranking team in the standings that had not been punished in the case. Inter finished third in the 2005-2006 season, behind Juventus and AC Milan.
Juventus was relegated to Serie B and stripped of the title, while AC Milan was docked 30 points for the past season.
An appeals court Tuesday also upheld a decision by a lower sports court to strip Juventus of the 2004-2005 league title. That title will remain vacant, the soccer federation said.
Despite the final appeals rulings in the case, Juventus, Lazio and Fiorentina say they will continue to fight the penalties they received.
Juventus plans to go to court to contest its relegation.
"We absolutely cannot accept this sentence," Juventus president Giovanni Cobolli Gigli said.
Juventus was largely unsuccessful in its appeal against the July 14 ruling which relegated it to the second division. Its points penalty for next season was reduced to 17 from 30.
AC Milan, spared demotion from Serie A, was reinstated to the Champion's League and had its point penalty for next season reduced from 15 to 8.
Milan's participation in the Champions League still must be ratified by European governing body UEFA, which plans a special meeting on the issue Thursday in Switzerland.
Tuesday's appeals court ruling also reinstated Fiorentina and Lazio to Serie A, Italy's top league, with heavy points penalties - 19 for Fiorentina and 11 for Lazio - but upheld the original ruling barring both teams from European club competition in the upcoming season.
In the earlier ruling, Fiorentina was sent down to Serie B and given a 12-point penalty while Lazio was demoted and docked seven points.

Well that does not defeat the fact that Inter performed poorly in the Serie A. This will be Inter's good luck and they can enjoy their Serie A title but it will not be for long cuz Milan will give them a competition. You also have Roma to make it hard.

Hmmmm....problem with Ibra, is that he's been able to do what he wants. Milan would not allow that. If he has to fight for his spot, he might play better. Maldini, Kaka, Pirlo, Gattuso, they wouldn't put up with that crap.
He needs forced, strict guidence. I think he could get it at Milan, but how can Juve sell him? They need him right now.
Having said that......I wouldn't want him at Roma LOL!
However, to not fret Milan fans, you look like your making a bid for Torres, though I don't think C.A. Madrid will sell him, they've been making big moves, I anticipate UEFA cup for them next season.
|
| Inter dont want him either, then we would just have 2 big slow strikers to go with the rest of our slowass team, we better not sign him i swear.

Cambiasso hits back at criticism of Inter Milan's Serie A title win
MILAN, Italy (AP) - Inter Milan midfielder Esteban Cambiasso hit back Friday at claims that his club didn't deserve to win the 2005-06 Serie A title after the country's match-fixing scandal stripped Juventus of the championship.
Inter, which finished third behind Juventus and AC Milan, was declared Serie A champion Wednesday by the Italian soccer federation as the highest-ranking team in the standings that had not been punished in the case. However, following the ruling, a number of prominent figures within Italian soccer argued that Inter didn't merit the Serie A title as the club hadn't won the crown on the field.
"When I hear it said that we have to win a scudetto on the pitch, I respond that we did. We won the points on the pitch," Cambiasso said.
Among those who have vented their opposition to Wednesday's decision was Juventus midfielder Pavel Nedved.
"To win the scudetto you need to be first on the last day (of the season) and they never have been," Nedved said, according to Italian sports daily Gazzetta dello Sport.
AC Milan owner, billionaire businessman and former premier Silvio Berlusconi joked Thursday that he was "happy" for cross-city rival Inter, adding sarcastically that the title had been assigned as a lifetime achievement award.
The 2005-06 crown was perennial Serie A contender Inter Milan's first championship title in 17 years, during which time the club finished in the league's top-three eight times.
Regardless of the criticism, for Cambiasso and Inter winning the league was cause for celebration.
"We are very proud of this title and personally, I am very happy to play in this shirt," the midfielder said.

That makes me laugh.........Inter was third last season with only 23 wins and 8 losses. Milan had 28 wins and 6 losses and Juve 27 with only 1 loss.
Inter is just so behind I cant even tell you!!!!!! But hey they were awarded the scudetto today cause they are the highest ranked club after we know what Milan and Juve had to go through!
I think the title should have been voided like other times. No Champ! I mean certainly Inter is far from being one. Void the damn title!!!!!!
|
|
I'm fine with it as long Milan gets awarded the 04-05 title. I just think it's funny that the Inter fans will thump their chests about a title with an asterisk next to it.
|
|
Seriously what about the 04-05 title. That one was voided right? This just doesnt make sense. You either void both of them or you declare Champions on both of them!
|
|
haha u people r funny how could they give milan the scudetto when they were involed in this whole thing. Inter winning it is just to separate the cheaters from those who played fairly, they deserve it. You guys can hate inter all u want but we'r all proud of our team for staying out of this whole thing and playing fairly and u just wish ur team had enough balls to do that. its a shame milan got off so easily.

Inter finished 3rd so what poor season ur talking bout? One or two players may have faired poorly but that does not make Inter any less. They are one of the best and lets face it babes they played clean and resulted to fair play which depicts the true nature of football. We didn need to pay or fix matches. We depend on our selves and talents and we finished 3rd mind you behind Juve and Milan and thats a big deal considering the fact Juve and Milan did the howler. So who's the true champs in here? Juve is in Serie B and most of their top guns are out and we might be just holding on the title for more than just now.

I was horrified yesterday when inside reports confirmed the rumor that Milan is likely to make a bid for Ibrahimovic and have actualy offered more than Inter. What the hell is going on?????? Ibra is a lazy dog. That is why teams like Inter suffer because of stuck up foreigners like him!
No Ibra in San Siro No Ibra in San Siro No Ibra in San Siro No Ibra in San Siro No Ibra in San Siro Period!
|
|
Now that im a AC Milan supporter i fully agree 100 5 with you on this subject. when i was a Juve (cheat) fan i can honestly say that Ibra effort in games and sheer love for the game didnt not impress me one bit. this player deserves to go out of Italy altogether. he's a player that plays with no heart no emotion and doesnt give his all. he should be playing in the spanish league where he will be loved as they love there c ester time over there. lol
|
|
I remember when I first joined you tried to convert me, it failed, but atleast you got one? I have converted one myself (another juve fan) and have gained more support, just look at the greatest thread in the forum! LOL! Anyway, Ibra has soo much skill, to bad he doesn't give a sh!t, and by the way, Trez is great, slow, but great, any team would want him

you make me laugh mate ... it will be the only thing you can celebrate for ... a disgrace getting a tittle like this ... and don't forget ACM kicked your a?s last season and will too this season ... buy buy buy buy buy buy and loose loose loose.
a scudetto with an asterisk is not something to celebrate. especially when you were the 3rd best team in the league.
then again, an almost 20 year drought you definitely have to take what you can get.

Talking about Inter Milan gets my blood boiling. I hate them with an immense passion. I am sure that Shamzy probably hates them more. You must hate them a lot then.
I think it's bs. But I don't think inter fans are celebrating. My roomate, certainly doesn't, and he's an interista. Hey gled, it's not sure if uefa gonna let milan participate in champions league.
