Newcastle agree fee for Martins

Newcastle moved a step closer to signing Nigeria striker Obafemi Martins after agreeing a deal with Inter Milan.
The fee for the 21-year-old is undisclosed but is thought to be £10m.
"It is now up to the player and the agent to agree terms on the offer," chairman Freddy Shepherd told the Newcastle website.
Magpies boss Glenn Roeder has been desperate to sign a new striker since Alan Shearer's retirement and Michael Owen's serious knee injury.
Martins has been unsettled at Inter since the club brought in Sweden's Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Argentine Hernan Crespo to strengthen their forward line.
He said Newcastle's determination to sign him had played a major part in his decision to join the Magpies.
"Playing in the Premiership has been a long-term ambition and I am extremely delighted with the prospect of concluding that in the next couple of days," he added.

Newcastle are understood to have agreed a £10million fee with Inter Milan for Nigerian striker Obafemi Martins.
The player's representative has been on Tyneside and has now returned to Italy to discuss the offer with his client.
'I can confirm we have agreed a fee with Inter Milan for Obafemi Martins,' Newcastle chairman Freddy Shepherd told the club's website.
'It is now up to the player and the agent to agree terms on the offer.'
Martins yesterday revealed that a deal was 80% done, and Magpies chairman Freddy Shepherd and manager Glenn Roeder will hope to finalise the transfer as they attempt to find a replacement for retired captain Alan Shearer.
Roeder has turned to the Inter Milan striker after being warned off Germany forward Miroslav Klose.
Martins himself seems keen to head for England, with the 21-year-old saying yesterday: 'I'm close to moving to Newcastle despite all the initial setbacks. Eighty per cent of the deal with Newcastle is completed.
'Playing in the Premiership has been a long-term ambition and I am extremely delighted with the prospect of concluding that in the next couple of days.'
Shepherd may have more cash to play with should misfit Jean-Alain Boumsong complete a proposed £4.5million move to Juventus.
The north-east club are desperate for a top-drawer striker. Alan Shearer has retired while England forward Michael Owen is not expected back until 2007 after his World Cup knee injury.
The 21-year-old Martins, who joined Inter in 2002, is a powerfully built forward who can run at defences.
In December last year he extended his Inter contract until 2010 but the close-season acquisitions of Argentina striker Hernan Crespo from English champions Chelsea and Sweden frontman Zlatan Ibrahimovic from Juventus, in the wake of Italy's match-fixing scandal, have pushed him down the pecking order.

Peter Crouch and Craig Bellamy lead the Liverpool attack in the Premiership clash with West Ham at Anfield, while Dirk Kuyt poised on the bench to make his Reds bow. Rafa Benitez has named a strong team with Xabi Alonso and Steven Gerrard lining up in the centre of the midfield. Daniel Agger partnered Sami Hyypia in defence and Fabio Aurelio gets the nod at left back.
Liverpool - Reina, Finnan, Aurelio, Hyypia, Agger, Gerrard, Alonso, Garcia, Pennant, Crouch, Bellamy.
Subs - Dudek, Kuyt, Kromkamp, Gonzalez, Zenden.
--------------------reina
--finnan--------agger----hyypia--------aurelio
--pennant------gerrard----alonso--------garcia
---------------crouch----bellamy
as expected besides garcia on the left instead of gonzalez

simply lost interest in you lot. This is my farewell.
Every TRUE BLUE and Light Blue know how much I dislike Chelsea FC and it's cult of souless plastic fans. Hush, now baby, don't you cry "boring"--I know it's not ground-breaking to declare hatred for the indomitable BLUES. Toppling an unholy entity such as yours has many, many enthusiasts these days. But Chelsea is an odd duck: while it seems that everyone with a brain hates them and their substandard performances, their focking games are broadcasted worldwide and they make scads of cash off it. How do they garner the respect of plaudits and pundits alike when there are other teams far more deserving of the attention, if only for the sheer heart of their performances and the dramatic impulses that fuel their desire to succeed? How does the one club in football history built purely of dubious means become exalted champions?
I'm still convinced that the primary lienholder on Chelsea's, and thus Roman Abramovich and his ghastly comrades, soul is our dear friend, Satan. Nothing will convince me otherwise, no matter how glamorous and poetic they appear in the media.
I leave you with this note and a simple F YOU.

OK, this is the 3rd game in a row that the Gunners have conceded the first goal. What makes it worse is that, with all their chances and all their shots, this really shouldn't have been a problem.
So what's the cause of all these problems with finishing?!! It doesn't matter if Arsenal can create great chances if it doesn't make opponents pay for them with goals!

He has been amazing so far this season. Arsene said that if he keeps this up that he'll have no choice but to force him into the starting lineup. What I wonder is.....is Theo really ready. I mean, he's 17. Is he that good, or is this just a lucky fluke. Is he gonna be the next big thing outta England. Well, Rooney said that when he was 17, he wasn't nearly as good as Theo is now. That says alot seeing that Rooney is one of the best young strikers in the world. Will Theo follow suit, or will he bust. Does he have the ponteinal to match up with Rooney, C. Ronaldo, Messi and the other young prodigies. We'll just have to wait and see.
