ok so i go out with the boys to a local establishment here in TO. We sit down to enjoy some suds (in my case coke with lots of ice) and about 60 nice and greasy, deep fried chicken wings (by the way, I have wicked heart burn this morning)
The 2 out of the 3 of us, just happen to be Serbs while am the italian, go figure, but we've been friends for life.
As we're sitting there, the 2 guys at the table next to us, are Croats, and they're discussing the game between Italy and Croatia. Of course, they're going on how Italy won't get up for the game and all that other stuff, but the one guy mentions that Italy is playing a bunch of nobodies and that Croazia (as it's properly spelled by the country that named it)will win 3-0 "guarantee".
At that point my buddy looks over at him and says...you willing to put your money where your mouth is? So of course the guy is stunned, comes to and calls us Italian....blah, blah, blah
We politely explain we're not Italian, at least am only half you see and that we're willing to bet $100 each that Italy will win...period
to make a boring story short, the one Croat insults Italian women somehow, and says they're good for one thing, and that Italian men, are the same as their women. So I asked if he was therefore gay, since he implied an involvement with Italian men. The 5 of us nearly got into a fight. They were all tough sitting, but the moment the 3 of us stood up (to dedend Italy's honour) and they realized at 1.90 meters I'm the shortest of my batch, they huffed and puffed their way to their bill, and left...
so here's the question...WHY??? why did i do that? lol

But you know what though? You guys are puting on the field a bunch of new players and they were right about that. Look at your roster! But you are right for $100 bucks I would bet them any time. Your guys are hungry to make the team and they will play their best!

You were in supprt of commen sense and appreciation for the great game of football. Now maybe you would not have defended France (i hope not) in the same manner, but you will find that Italian fans appreciate the game and the team and with the exception of some zealots, we are very respectful of good football from all cultures. However we are clear about who we root for.
Thanks to your support for Italy i think you have won over a big group of supporters from this board who will go to bat for the Serbs, Italians and South Africans.
If you notice, even the die-hard Shamzy has not bashed Italy despite her passion for Real Madrid and the Seleção with AC Milan trailing. . You guys have had some class discussions about the game and showed respest for each other.
Isn't that what this board is supposed to be about?

technically I am from Italy, however I was born on the nicer side of the Adriatic coast. Dad's a half Italin purist but he takes after dadaji so its Pakistani who resides in SA.
I was ok with the whole arguement being about football, until they mentioned the women. My mom is Italian, and hell what kind of a son would i be, if i let some shumck insult her
i'm just glad i didn't have to hit anyone, not sure i throw a good punch, but i know my two friends do

respect is where it's at...
doesn't matter if two people don't agree, but they can dicuss like civilized men...
my goal is to convert Sham and Abe into a Juve fan or a Zvezda fan at the very least.
I'm South African and have many Italian friends and family, so my opinion of you guys is somewhat biased...but my family that lives back home, if you ask them who they support outside of SA or Pakistan, they'll all tell you, they like the Italian team or an Italian club team. Avid Zvezda and Regina. Am the only odd Juve. But I do have a soft spot for Zvezda and Regina.
Zvezda losing to AC Milan is no shame on a club level, and during the 04 EURO qualifiers, we drew Italy both times...lead both times and you guys came back to equalize both times...now if only we could have done that against Azerbaijan, we would have advanced to the play-off round...ugh we sucked back then
I had to go for coke with rocks cuz me had way to much of alco.
