Yeah Garam Masala was good and I dig only John in there. Taxi 9211 was decent as well. Virudh was ok but it was not much of a John affair. |

taxi no 9211 was nana patekar's show all the way.

John was recognised well enough to boost the fact that he is a good actor. Taxi did well because of both John and Nana.
And yes I recently watched Water by Deepa Mehta and that is THE MOVIE to be watched. I dont think its released in India but from where I am, it's circulated and INTERNATIONAL CRITICS said that the movie Water is simply the best and the roles played by Sarala, Lisa Ray and John Abraham looked so real so much so one wonders if its tailored for them.
Of course you cant call John a superstar cuz he's still new. Give him more films albeit the masala factor and he'll prove that he's more than a pretty face.

inimahs, glad too see that someone agrees with me about "water"- fab wasn't it? it was great to actually sit down and watch a movie. an american entertainment magazine gave the film a "B" score saying that it was too hard to follow the movie because lisa and john looked like vogue models...i have to disagree of course they looked beautiful ;) but it was one of the best performanes for each one of them... |

Inimahs and AshWhat, I agree with ya two ladies that Water is ze best movie ever. Better than Black I dare say. Had to disagree with the vogue model fitting cuz there are several other American and British as well as other international countries critics which said that they dont only look god but they act beyond that.

I truly feel that John is maturing as an actor. Proof, Deepa Mehta's Water. She's a distinguished woman and to be in a movie of hers if a huge thing. Not only did John looked the part as Narayan who is a follower of Ghandi but he played the part well indeed. The critics for Water are just amazing and it's all from the international press. Mr.Roger Erbet a famous film critic is all words for this movie and the performance of the stars. They all loved Water right from the very first frame itself. I think I see why they prefer Water to Black.
Black is a splendid movie and I love every aspect and every essence of Black. Rani, Amitabh and Ayesha Kapoor were awsome but if I'm to choose(personally that is) between Black and Water its got to be Water. Reason, Water brings the essence of aged old customs which infact diminishes the role and value of women those days. It speaks about hardship and endurance of an 8 year old widow. The realism and the performance and the substance is such a storm and it makes Black look like a squall. Of course opinions differs.
Besides Water, I do infact know 3 other movies which can be compared to Black. In fact these 3 movies are way above Black. They are Pather Panchali, Aparajito and Apur Sansar...also known as the Appu Trilogy. These movies are by India's very own ace director, multiple award winner both nationally and internationally as well as an Oscar winner, Mr.Satyajit Ray. Black can never ever be compared to these movies. In fact no movies can and I highly doubt that there will be in the near future as well.
JOHN YOU WERE ROCKING IN WATER AND YOU PROVED THAT YOU'RE NOT JUST A MERE PRETTY BOY BUT YOU'RE AN ACTOR AS WELL. WAY TO GO ;)

Funny you bharath. If u read inimahs's post you'll see that she's not talking about bo. Besides I doubt Water will do well in India cuz it deals with a controversial topic just like Fire and Earth. Water did well internationally and better than Black.
Compariosn it respect of the quality of the storyline and performance. Both Black and Water were good but Water seem to be getting the plump tomatoes. Go Deepa Mehta. 8) |

I watched Water and it's a true masterpiece. Deep Mehta at her best. I freaking teared ya'll. I didn even shed a tear for Black tho I felt sad after watching ity but Water was tru to its name, it brings the water down your eyes. I think it does not matter if Water does well in India or not cuz it's very succesful overseas. People like Deepa Mehta is one of the many factors which makes me proud to be an Indian.
Lisa Ray is hot :o and little Chuiya is the true star and John surprised me. Who would have thought pretty boy John in a Deepa Mehta? And a good effort by him too. |

Bharath I can tell you that the degree of success for this film in India is rather shallow. They were protesting when Deepa Mehta was making this film and they even burned and brought down her sets. I dont expect anything different if its to be shown in India. Who cares anyway. Its a shame that some sectors in India dont seem to appreaciate good movies by directors such as Rituparno Gosh, Maniratnam and Deepa Mehta. These are the people who are giving the International midas touch. So far Sanjay Leela Bhansali seems to be doing well both commercially and with the critics. But Deepa Mehta is a whole new institution itself and she will win more and more.

I doubt Water will have it smooth in India. After all, Deepa Mehta had to shift her shooting to Sri Lanka due to all the problems and protest faced by her in India. Poor thing, her sets were wrecked and burned by them.
John is not the real hero in Water. It has to be Sarala who plays Chuiya. But what we're focusing here is Johns ability to carry such a role. And yeah superstar brings the moolah in no doubt but I dig a superactor like Nana Patekar and Atul Kulkarni. John has proven that he has the potential to be a superactor. He's got a bit more to go or maybe even long way to go just for him to achieve the superstar status.

I never would have thought that John would have starred in such an artsy fartsy movie. Its a nice change actually and its good to see that he's versatile.
By the way Sham, it seems that Deepa Mehta made Fire, Earth and now Water. It involves the mystic elements and u and I for sure bet that there will be a film by her titled Air. So that completes the cycle of the mystic elements. But my q is that...why does she revolves around the mystic elements? I am trying my best to rule of the possibilities of her being and Illuminata but the temptation is great ;). Can she be an Illuminata? Prehaps yes. Look at her movies. It seems to defeat the age old and traditional believes just along the lines of a non-extreme Illuminata. Is she trying to show the part to Illumination? Lets watch all 3 movies again and lest just decipher it. I love to crak it up ya know.

john abraham is improving as an actor this shows in the film water
