Born September 21, 1977 in Mumbai, India (I thought she born in 1979)
Kareena Kapoor is the daughter of Randhir Kapoor and Babita, who divorced when she was still young.[citation needed] Rishi Kapoor is one of her uncles. Her sister, Karisma Kapoor, is also an actress. Her other relatives include maternal aunt Sadhana, and cousins Shivani Kapoor, Ranbir Kapoor and Nikhil Nanda who is currently married to Shweta Bachchan-Nanda who is the daughter of Amitabh Bachchan. Her boyfriend is Shahid Kapoor.
Early life
When she was younger she would frequently accompany her sister to film shoots. Though born into a film family, Kareena at first wanted to become a lawyer. She attended Jamnabai Narsee School in Mumbai and then went to Welham Girl's Boarding School in Dehradun. She returned to Mumbai to attend Mithibai College where she did her commerce.
She went to Harvard for summer school and while she was there she took a course in microcomputers and information technology. Set on pursuing an acting career, she completed her twelth standard and joined the film industry. She also attended the Kishore Namit Kapoor acting school.
Career
Kareena's intended debut was supposed to be opposite Hrithik Roshan in Rakesh Roshan's Kaho Naa... Pyaar Hai but she left the film. She made her debut in J P Dutta’s Refugee in 2000 with Abhishek Bachchan and won critical acclaim for portraying the role of a Pakistani girl. Her next movie was Mujhe Kuch Kehna Hai (2001), which proved to be commercially successful, but it was films like Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham and Asoka (2001) that brought her critical acclaim along with commercial success. She was signed on for more movies after these successes, but unfortunately, all of them flopped at the box office.
In 2004, she played the role of a prostitue in Chameli. The critics applauded her performance. [1]. Kapoor later won the Filmfare Special Performance Award for the movie. Films like Yuva and Dev followed for the latter, in which she received the Filmfare Critics Award for Best Performance. Her performances in both these films were critically acclaimed and generally appreciated [2] [3]. Films like Aitraaz and Hulchul (2004) brought her commercial success after a long time.
2006 began with films like 36 China Town and Chup Chup Ke opposite Shahid Kapoor, which were both moderately successful [4]. Her recent performance in Omkara was praised and appreciated. [5]

Trivia
Though she debuted in Refugee, it was the third movie she signed. She first started work on Ajnabee. Due to technical diffuculties Refugee was released before Ajnabee.
Kapoor sang for herself on the song "Jab Nahin Aye The Tum", for the movie Dev. This is unusual; most songs are sung by playback singers. The song was a pop hit.
Kareena is rumoured to be one of the highest paid actresses along with Aishwarya Rai.
