If they were playing the true Italian Champion Juventus, then maybe (just maybe) not. But against a second place team that shouldn't even be here anything is possible. Especially at home where the chance always exists that the Delije will storm the field at half time.

Just kidding about the Delije, I'm also kidding about Milan not deserving to be here. But some Milan fans think the team is indestructable. I don't see that either. I'm not saying they aren't great; we know that, stop telling us how great. I'm just saying, Maldini is a bit older now, Pippo is no spring chicken either. Nesta hasn't played a compeitive game in over 2 months so to say he's back at full strength is a stretch. I haven't played soccer since I was 12. But I've been playing rugby for 12 of the last 13 years and it's not easy to come back from injjury. Even after it heals it takes awhile to get into shape again (Totti at the WC). And when you get in shape you still tend to try to stay away from the injury, favor the other leg, whatever. It's not easy.

I won't predict a win for Red Star but I wish the Milan fans would stop telling us how easy a win it will be for Milan. If they were that good they'd have won the Itailian title last year regardless. I like Crvena Zvezda, but I just found out about them a year ago so I'm not the die hard trying to defend them. If anything I've always been more a fan of Milan and Juventus. I just don't think it will be as easy as you all say.

Real maybe, but Barca have nothing to worry about. With the signings they have made, any team in the world should be worried about facing barca.

Benitez faces tough questioning

Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez had to deal with some awkward questions on Monday ahead of the crucial Champions League tie against Maccabi Haifa.

The Middle East conflict means the second leg is in Kiev on Tuesday, but Israeli journalists accused Benitez of forcing Uefa into the move.

"It is a Uefa decision," said Benitez. "You must understand why we couldn't go to Tel Aviv.

"We respect Haifa, their team and fans and we did not pressure anyone."

News conference: Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez

The tense news conference ended a difficult day for Benitez and his players.

The club's flight from Liverpool was delayed for 90 minutes and they were forced to wait for another 90 minutes at Kiev airport to get their baggage.

Chile winger Mark Gonzalez and striker Peter Crouch were then held up at the airport by administrative difficulties.

We know what this match means to us and I'm confident we'll get the right result

To cap it all, captain Steven Gerrard had to sit out training with a stomach upset.

However, the midfielder is expected to start for Benitez's side, who take a 2-1 lead in the tie.

Victory in Kiev will ensure Liverpool compete in the lucrative group stages of this year's competition.

"We know how important this game is financially, for our confidence, for the club and our fans," Benitez said.

"Haifa are a good side but we know what this match means to us and I'm confident we'll get the right result."

But Benitez does not expect Haifa to make things easy for his side, who will be without injured duo Jamie Carragher and John Arne Riise.

"We know it's going to be really difficult," he added.

"We knew they were a very, very good team before we played them at home and they played well on the counter-attack at Anfield.

"We have a couple of injured players but, as I've said before, we have a better squad this season and we can manage.

"Daniel Agger has done very well in the games he has played this season. I signed him because I knew he was a good player and I have every confidence in him."

Under-fire Rafa defends Liverpool

Rafael Benitez suffered an astonishing assault on Liverpool's motives and character ahead of their Champions League tie against Maccabi Haifa.

Liverpool's flight from John Lennon airport was delayed for 90 minutes due to mechanical problems before they were forced to wait for another 90 minutes at Kiev airport to get their baggage because their plane 'had been parked in the wrong place'.

Eventually the charter plane was moved to the correct place to allow the baggage to be unloaded but not before there had been further delays over Chile international Mark Gonzalez's visa, while Peter Crouch was unable to produce his passport because it was stuck in the hold while the baggage row continued.

Both players eventually continued their journey to the city centre with their team-mates before embarking on a delayed training session.

Liverpool arrived for this third qualifying round second leg, with £12million hanging on the outcome as they hold a 2-1 lead over the Israelis, they were without injured defenders Jamie Carragher, John Arne Riise as well as youngster Gabriel Paletta.

Steve Finnan's return from a muscle injury did little to lift the mood of frustration as they finally reached their hotel.

But then their manager was ambushed by a remarkable sustained assault of questioning from Israeli journalists who criticised Liverpool's part in having the game moved from Israel because of the Middle East crisis.

They accused Liverpool of pressuring UEFA into taking this second leg to Dynamo Kiev's small stadium and then constantly asked Benitez why his club was scared to travel to Israel, insisting that 'there was no war in Tel Aviv'.

Liverpool were also accused of roughhouse tactics in the first leg as Benitez struggled to keep his cool and the focus on the match.

He said: "We are here because of a UEFA decision and I only want to talk about the game. My only concern is with football, you must understand why we couldn't come to Tel Aviv.

"I was asked these same questions a few years ago when I was manager at Valencia and we had to play a game outside of Israel. That too was a decision made by UEFA. We at Liverpool are now here to play football and you all know the reason why.

"We have always said we have respect for Haifa, their team and supporters and we did not pressure anyone."

But it is clear the game is being built up into a grudge match with further complaints about Liverpool's tactics at Anfield.

Benitez added: "I have seen the video, maybe you are seeing something different; a different video than me."

Benitez tried hard to stick to the match, in which he accepted that Liverpool dare not lose the tie.

He said: "We know the situation, we need to score early. But we have lost important players in our defence, although we now have a better squad than before and will manage the situation.

"We have experience now, we have players who have won league titles, the Champions League, FA Cup and UEFA Cup. We know what to do and know who we will play."

Reds strikers eye CL group stages

Liverpool stars Dirk Kuyt and Craig Bellamy are united in their desire to see the Reds reach the group stages of this year's Champions League.

Dutchman Kuyt, who arrived at Anfield only last week and is ineligible for Tuesday's Champions League third qualifying round second leg, can only play in the group stages, the draw for which is in Monaco later this week.

To be in the hat Liverpool must overcome Maccabi Haifa in Kiev on Tuesday. And predictably, Kuyt is hoping his new team-mates finish the job and do not fall victim to what will be a catastrophic defeat that would dump them into the UEFA Cup.

Kuyt was left behind on Merseyside but said earlier: "I am just hoping and praying that the lads beat Haifa. I have never played in the Champions League before and that is why I came to Liverpool.

"It is one of the things I went to achieve and quickly. It is very important for my career to play at this level. I know I need big matches to improve me and that means Champions League football."

Bellamy has the bitter experience of losing at this stage with Newcastle two seasons ago to spur him on.

The Wales striker, who scored on his debut in the 2-1 first-leg win, said: "When Partizan Belgrade beat Newcastle at this stage it had a knock-on effect for the first few months of the season.

"It was a real struggle because everything you have been looking forward to with regards to Champions League has been taken away from you.

"No disrespect to the UEFA Cup but it is nowhere near as big a tournament. We have just got to get past this Haifa side and get through to the next stage.

"We knew they would be tricky in the first leg because we watched some tapes of them and it was tough facing a side you do not know that much about.

"But it will be a different game in the second leg. They have to come out and attack us now with them being one down. They were able to sit back and defend in the first game and that made it hard for us to find space.

"They had everyone behind the ball which made it very frustrating but now they have got to have a go at us which should give us the openings we need."
