Year on Year each New Year brings us hope and cheer of something new and good. Hey Guys and Gals, don’t worry, the critics may scare you with recession time in US of A. But Bollywood will be zooming full throttle in 2008.

About a week before Diwali, I had an argument with my boss. His line of reasoning- a man who’s made movies like Black and Devdas ought to know his business. Apparently not! The box office has announced its verdict. On Shanti Om has made 7+ crores in its first week in Mumbai alone, while Saawariya, which promised eternity to begin with, is now a slowly fading blur on the horizon.

If you were to make a Bollywood film today, there would of course be no getting away from trailors for you. You’d need to make sure that the scenes and songs you choose to include in your promotional trailors reflect the spirit and theme of your movie and are able to draw your target audience to theatres and multiplexes. And if you were Farah Khan, you’d know by now that you’ve pulled off a maha Bollywood coup!

I am just back from watching Om Shanti Om and one word summarizes the movie : Bollywood. If you love Bollywood, you will love this movie. Farah Khan and Shahrukh Khan delivered a total paisa (or should I say dollar) vasool movie.

Finally a fresh romantic story in weeks in cinemas this year. Jab We Met sparkles with the chemistry of the lead pair, Shahid Kapur and Kareena kapoor as well as a well crafted neatly paced screenplay and slick direction.

(4 stars out of 5) Shahrukh Khan fans were reminded of Swades and Laagan as they watched a brilliantly executed hockey movie, Chak De India. The Yash Chopra camp known for its romantic and recently flashy movies offered something refreshingly different as Chak De India and pleasantly surprised movie lovers.

If you love Himesh Reshammiya, you must have liked Aap Ka Surroor. The movie is more of a collection of nice songs and a story around them. The movie opened huge and is destined to be a big hit.
