Bollywood: Tax Problem pesters the Bachchans
The infuriated fans of the Bollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan held a rally outside an Income Tax office in Mumbai to protest against notices issued to the actor and his family members over the payment of tax dues. The news that Amitabh Bachchan has bought a pair of sunglasses for Rs 2.7 lakhs raked up income tax issue. The fans, wearing dark sunglasses, also shouted slogans against the Central government during the protest outside the office in south Mumbai.

Amitabh Bachchan reportedly protested by writing a letter to a senior income tax official, wherein he stated that he did not purchase the sunglass in question nor could a sunglass be so outrageously expensive.
The latest trouble with the income tax department started with reference to a company ‘Lotus Investment’ which is supposedly owned by Mrs. Jaya Bachchan and the IT department has asked Jaya Bachchan to file the returns of Lotus Investment Company. Jaya Bachchan is presently in Dubai and sources close to the Bachchan family find the raking up of an eleven year old case absurd.
Samajwadi Party workers joined Amitabh fans in protesting against the IT move and it was insinuated that the Party is sponsoring all these protests. On June 12, Samajwadi Party workers vandalized IT offices and burnt effigies of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Congress chief Sonia Gandhi in parts of the Uttar Pradesh as goes the media report.
However, Samajwadi Party leader Amar Singh refuted the charges that his party was sponsoring protests and reiterated that the Congress was targeting the Bachchans. Amar Singh alleged that Bachchans were being ‘harassed’ by the income tax authorities, who had issued “repeated notices to him at regular intervals”. Mulayam Singh Yadav, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister was quoted saying by the Media, “By targeting Amitabh Bachchan and Jaya Bachchan, the Congress is not going to achieve anything. I would like to advice the Centre and the Congress to remove all their ideas of revenge and concentrate on serving the people.”
The way everything gets politicized in India is ridiculous and that certainly is an impediment as far as the country’s progress is concerned.

People are harassing Amitabhji unnecessarily. What is it that they are trying to prove?
Even to some extent, his auditors are at fault to bring this to such a big extent
God is with Amitji and his family

The Govt. at the Centre is acting in a really vindictive manner. And its amply clear at whose insistence these things are being done.
What people of India have not yet realised is the ‘actual’ chain of people who are behind this. What comes to my mind right now is this:
SRK (since he is miffed at AB because of Abhi’s success) tells Priyanka Gandhi (remember they’re ‘close’ now-a-days as Priyanka & Robert had visited SRK recently). Priyanka in turn tells her mom Sonia, who ‘commands’ Manmohan Singh, who ‘requests’ Chidambaram, and this guy has no choice but to pull the plug.
So the chain is pretty simple, as well as probable:
SRK-Priyanka-Sonia-Manmohan-Chidambaram-IT-Dept.
Shame on these guys….
But don’t worry Bachchanji, a total of at least one BILLION people are right behind you! We support you whole-heartedly and condemn this unnecessary harassment by the government.
