Tom Cruise and the placenta of the new born baby.

Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise had been blessed with a daughter and they are reportedly celebrating the birth of their first child whom they will name Suri. The name means ‘princess’ in Hebrew or ‘red rose’ in Persian.

The baby weighed 7lb 7oz and both Katie and the new born are doing well. Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes are engaged to be married and Cruise reportedly said that the couple would tie the knot sometime after the birth of their child. No details were given about the birth , which had been the subject of much speculation whether Katie Holmes, would give birth in silence in accordance with Scientology doctrine.

But the elated father Tom Cruise seems to have set the media speculating again. How?

He seems to have stated hours before the birth of the baby that he was planning to eat the placenta and his first born’s umbilical cord. In an interview with GQ Magazine, Cruise, 43, announced: “I’m gonna eat the placenta. I thought that would be good. I’m gonna eat the cord and the placenta right there.”

He later played down his comments, telling a television audience: “We’re not eating it.” But the earlier comment was enough to keep the speculation going.

The eating of the placenta after birth is common among mammals - and also in some human cultures. It is believed that the placenta can help to prevent post-natal depression because it is rich in minerals and nutrients, particularly vitamin B6, which is know to ward off depression whereas others believe that men and close family who eat the placenta feel more attached to the baby.
But, the doctors largely believe that and human beings don’t need to eat it for nutrition.
