Sourav Ganguly out in the cold

Sourav Ganguly, former Indian skipper, has been excluded in Indian squad for the first cricket Test against England, beginning in Nagpur from March 1, 2006 . However, Sourav is not alone, the selection committee has put axe on Gautam Gambhir, Zaheer Khan and Ajit Agarkar. The captain for the first Test is Rahul Dravid , and Wasim Jaffer, Mohammed Kaif have been included in the team while off spinner Harbhajan Singh has returned after recovering from a finger injury.

The selection committee headed by Kiron More, is searching for new faces for the future of Indian cricket. The new faces in the Test squad include Piyush Chawla, S Sreesanth, VRV Singh and Suresh Raina. Remember Piyush Chawla ? The wonder lad for India at the Under 19 World Cup in Sri Lanka, the 17-year-old leg spinner from Uttar Pradesh .

But for Sourav, who was silent to media, it could well be the end of the road for him. Sourav Ganguly had been dropped from the ODI team in October last year and now he is excluded from the Test squad. A handful of protestors gathered outside the Prince of Kolkata’s house in Behala to protest his omission from the squad. It seemed the average Kolkatan had accepted the selectors’ decision.
