Families of Sachin Tendulkar, Agarkar join Indian entourage

Karachi, Jan 26 : The family of master batsman Sachin Tendulkar and that of pacer Ajit Agarkar joined the Indian squad as it arrived here from Faisalabad Thursday, expanding the already large entourage.

Agarkar, the only right-arm pacer in the 16-member squad, had arrived here Wednesday night along with the Pakistani team to receive her wife, while the rest of the team members arrived Thursday after cancelling their originally scheduled flight in the morning.

“All the boys were tired and they went to sleep immediately upon arrival,” the Indian team’s media manager G.S. Walia told IANS.

The Indian and Pakistani teams are to play the third and final Test at the National Stadium starting Sunday.

The first two Tests in Lahore and Faisalabad ended in dull draws. The arch-rivals of the sub-continent will also play five one-day internationals.

Tendulkar will be especially pleased to have been joined by wife Anjali, son Arjun and daughter Sara as they could not be with him on the historic tour of Pakistan in March-April, 2004, because of the children’s school examinations.

But Agarkar’s wife Fatima did give him company on that tour also.

Walia said there was no event or function scheduled for Thursday or Friday and the team will take it easy.

“They have exerted themselves a lot so far on the tour,” he said. “They will play a round of golf and have lunch at the Arabian Sea Country Club Friday.”

The Indian team will have its first practice session Saturday morning, Walia said.

He added that vice-captain Virender Sehwag, who had food poisoning during the Faisalabad Test, had completely recovered.

“He will definitely play the Test here,” he assured.

The Indian team is in Pakistan on a 45-day tour.
