Kolkata fumes as Sourav Ganguly is dropped.
Kolkata, Jan 21 : Effigies of coach Greg Chappell and Kiran More, chairman of the national selectors went up in flames Saturday in Kolkata as Sourav Ganguly fans took to the streets once again protesting the exclusion of Dada from the second Test match against Pakistan in Faisalabad.
Captain Rahul Dravid too was targeted by the irate fans who dubbed the trio as conspirators.
Protestors in Kalighat in south Kolkata held placards screaming “We want Sourav back”, “We pray for Sourav’s return to the team” and “Down with Chappell and More”.
“This is a ploy to end Ganguly’s cricketing career by demoralising him repeatedly,” said a fan.
Former national selector Sambaran Banerjee too echoed the sentiment declaring, “From a strictly cricketing point of view, I too think Sourav should not have been excluded, though I strongly support taking five bowlers in the team.”
“Four bowlers would have disturbed the balance. It was unjust to exclude him when he had not played even a single ball. Why Sourav should be sacrificed for taking five bowlers I fail to understand,” he said.
Banerjee said Yuvraj Singh could have been excluded instead of Sourav.

ganguly has been the most successful captain in decades for india. nobody can get closer to him. so he must be in the team for sure. he had played ODI’s much better than test matches, then why had he droped for ODI’s in pak. it is looking like a rivalry playing against him by the BCCI and his some team mates too.

I have been the biggest supporter of Ganguly during his whole episode with Chappel and Selectors. But this time I feel Dravid did the right thing. If everyone look carefuly in our batting, then it was difficult to drop anyone except Ganguly, because ganguly may have scroed heavily in domestic matches, but keeping in mind the form in international matches, he was poor in form. So everytime I supported Ganguly, but this time it was really fair considering in mind the condition of the wicket and need of five bowlers to curb pakistan run flow. Please dont make it controversy because I know Ganguly will be back in Karachi, where wicket might not be that flat.
