Aamir Khan: Most patriotic Bollywood Star
Mumbai, Jan 19 (IANS) Aamir Khan seems to be Bollywood’s most patriotic star, having featured in “Sarfarosh”, “Lagaan”, “Mangal Pandey” and now “Rang De Basanti”.
Be it fate, coincidence or intended approach, his last few releases were more or less based on patriotism, reports Bollywood Trade.
In “Sarfarosh”, he played a sincere police officer who tries to wipe off drug-trafficking between India and Pakistan and in “Lagaan”, he played a self-righteous villager in the pre-Independence era who meets British officers head-on.
And recently he featured in the most hyped patriotic film of 2005 “Mangal Pandey - The Rising”. He etched the role of a martyr - Mangal Pandey who triggered a revolt against the East India Company in 1857. The movie was released on Independence Day.
His latest film “Rang De Basanti”, slated for a Republic Day release, also has a tinge of patriotism. The film revolves around urban youth living in Delhi. After the “Mangal Pandey” debacle this is Aamir’s first release, let’s hope it hits gold at the box-office.

RECREATING GURU DUTT’S MAGIC
With the latest Bollywood trend of remaking old classics, Venus Entertainment and Gandhi Media have joined hands to remake Guru Dutt’s unforgettable classic “Chaudhvin Ka Chand”.
Paying a tribute to his father, Arun Dutt will head the advisory panel for this project, reports Bollywood Trade.
A few months ago, there was a buzz that the eminent director Rituparno Ghosh’s forthcoming project will be a remake of the 1960s classic “Sahib Bibi Aur Ghulam” based on Bimal Mitra’s classic.
One of the greatest filmmakers of his time, Guru Dutt crafted masterpieces like “Pyaasa”, “Kaagaz Ke Phool” and “Chaudhvin Ka Chand”. Despite being a commercial director his work reflected the same intelligentsia of parallel filmmakers like Satyajit Ray.

WHO WILL BE VINTA NANDA’S MAHESH BHATT?
Ever since the Bhatts have zeroed on Shiny Ahuja to play the role of filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt in “Woh Lamhe”, director Vinta Nanda has been receiving calls about the actor she would cast in her own film on Mahesh Bhatt’s life.
The obvious choice would be Rahul Bose, knowing that Bose is known to be Vinta’s favourite actor and also has the intensity that such a character requires.
However, Vinta prefers to keep a discreet silence, reports Bollywood Trade.
“I am in the final stages of scripting the film and hope to finish it by April but I am yet to make up my mind about who would be best suited for the role. It will have to be someone unique,” she says.
Vinta is also preoccupied with her documentary, “Gender Bender”, which she is producing for Pujita Chowdhary.
“I am looking at a proper theatrical release for the film across all theatres in India. In fact, I want the film to be the take-off point for a whole women’s movement,” says she.
The film discusses the achievements of women who have made their mark in traditionally male-dominated professions.
