Sourav Ganguly to play Ranji Trophy on January 3

Sourav Ganguly along with another three players are to play Ranji Trophy Elite Division league matches (round 6) for their respective state teams beginning January 3, as per the BCCI directive. The other three players are Virender Sehwag, Anil Kumble, and Parthiv Patel. The Ranji Trophy match will keep these four players busy in India and they will leave for Pakistan on January 7, whereas the rest of the team will leave for Pakistan tour on January 5, 2006.

The decision has been taken after the controversy over the absence of Sourav Ganguly in the Ranji Trophy in Surat got media attention and Selection Committee Chairman Kiran More expressing his displeasure over it, and writing letter to BCCI Secretary Niranjan Shah as to why Ganguly was not playing in the Ranji match.
Now the entire issue of non playing Ranji Trophy is reviewed by India captain Rahul Dravid, coach Greg Chappell and selection committee chairman Kiran More and the recent directive to play Ranji Trophy on January 3, has been approved by Board president Sharad Pawar.

If we pick up the 16-member squad, selected for the Pakistan tour in January 2006 ,then following is the status of these players since the ODI series against Sri Lanka.
