Cricket: With Sachin Tendulkar back, Rahul Dravid is a happy captain
The huge 152-run victory in ODI against Sri Lanka has certainly lifted the morale of the Indian cricket team in general, Rahul Dravid the captain and Sachin Tendulkar in particular. Playing after a gap of more than six months ( last played April 17, 2005), Sachin showed no signs of reduced vigor as he smashed 93 off just 96 balls ( nine fours and two sixes) after opening the Indian innings with Sehwag. The pair Tendulkar and Pathan kept up a run rate of well over six an over to bring up the 200 in the 31st over but Sachin missed out on his 39th one-day hundred.

Rahul Dravid is a happy captain with Sachin, “It’s fantastic to have him back, especially when he puts up a performance like he did today. It’s not easy to come back after four and a half, five months out of the game. Physically also, it is tough on you. He played a great knock for the team, batted for a long period of time,” We thought we’d give the Sri Lankans a bit of a surprise. It was a great suggestion, Sachin came up with this idea and we discussed it and went to coach Greg Chappell. It’s just great to have Tendulkar around, not just because of his batting, but for his presence on and off the field.”
Dravid, who knows that the responsibilities of a captain is far from over, cautioned his players against any complacency in the seven-match series, the second ODI is in Mohali on October 28, Friday. “Sri Lanka haven’t got to number two in the world for nothing. We respect them a lot and we know we’ll have a lot of tough cricket ahead,” Dravid reminded to his team members.
Sri Lanka captain Marvan Atapattu blamed the quick dismissal of his top order batsmen. Looking back at the game, Atapattu commented, “It was a good wicket to bat on, and the key was having wickets in hand which we didn’t do. Full credit to the Indians, they approached it very well. If you are talking about Sachin it is hard to contain him when he is in full flow,”
