Bollywood: Jaggu Dada is learning from Amitabh Bachchan

Bollywood star Jackie Shroff, lovingly called Jaggu dada, is certainly in favor of experimentation in the cinema world with more characters. He speaks very high of Big B, Amitabh Bachchan who has kept the cinema fans glued to the screen with his multiple roles even at a ripe age of 64. Jackie pointed out, “Look at Amitabh Bachchan. Amitji is considered a great actor because of his variety, experimentation. And as a lesson from him, I must work harder as there is a lot to do in my career.”

Bollywood is changing with time, the lead role concept is also changing, it is important to do justice to the character one is playing. It does not matter anymore if you are not in the lead role. Jaggu Dada feels, “Lead roles are now all about dancing, singing and fighting. The real challenge is to bring a character alive and I am happy to be a part of the mature group. I played an alcoholic in ‘Devdas’ and the audience’s response was amazing. Then ‘Mission Kashmir’ and ‘Yadein’- they were all experimentation.”

Even though Jackie Shroff does not speak Bengali, he did an excellent job in director Rituparno Ghosh’s Bengali film “Antar Mahal” releasing Oct 28. The actor has been nominated in the Best Actor category at the 58th Locarno International Film festival, for his performance as impious landlord ( Zamindar as they call). “Antar Mahal” has also been nominated in the Best Film category at the same festival. The film, , is a story of a wicked Zamindar, his two wives, Rupa Ganguly and Soha Ali Khan; and a sculptor played by Abhishek and his wife, Raima Sen. Other films of Jackie Shroff in the pipeline are , Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s “Eklavya”, releasing early next year, “Mera Dil Leke Dekho” and “Kyon Ki”.
