Sania Mirza out in SEMIFINAL in straight sets !

Sania Mirza, the last hope of India, lost in the semi final of the singles of AIG Japan Open Tennis Championships 2005, in Tokyo, JAPAN, bowing down to GOLOVIN Tatiana[FRA] ( Seeded No. 3 ), by straight set 2-6, 4-6 , on Saturday, October 08, 2005, the match started at 12 noon Tokyo time and lasted for 1 hr 39 mins. Earlier, Sania lost in the semi final in the Doubles of AIG Japan Open , surrendering to seeded no. 2 DULKO Gisela[ARG] / KIRILENKO Maria[RUS] by 1-6, 4-6, on Friday, October 07, 2005.

Prior to this match, in the quarterfinal of singles on Friday, October 07, 2005, Sania ,seeded no. 8, showed a tremendous display of stamina, coolness and determination to crush down seeded no. 1, Russian Vera Zvonareva , 5-7, 6-2, 6-4. It was certainly a feather in the cap for Sania, to defeat a WTA rank Singles 24, (Career high 9, August 9, 2004), and will go a long way to build confidence for Sania, particularly after her devastating performance in Sunfeast Open, Kolkata, last month.

On the other leg of the singles semifinal, VAIDISOVA Nicole[CZE] ( Seeded No. 2 ) defeated [RUS]KIRILENKO Maria, 6-4, 6-2, on Saturday, October 08, 2005. So now the singles final will be between VAIDISOVA Nicole[CZE] ( Seeded No. 2 ) and GOLOVIN Tatiana[FRA] ( Seeded No. 3 ).

On the doubles side of AIG Japan Open Tennis Championships 2005, in Tokyo, JAPAN, seeded no. 1 ASAGOE Shinobu[JPN] / VENTO-KABCHI Maria[VEN] pair will meet seeded no. 2 DULKO Gisela[ARG] / KIRILENKO Maria[RUS].
