Sania Mirza in 2nd round in Kolkata

Sania Mirza, 18 year old tennis star of India entered into the second round of the USD 170,000, WTA Sunfeast Open 2005, defeating Japanese qualifier Junri Namigata in straight sets 6-2, 6-2 at the Netaji Indoor Stadium in Kolkata on September, 20. Sania kept the crowd spell bound for 54 minutes with her 20 wins, including two aces.

Sania now will meet Melinda Czink of Hungery, with WTA ranking 122 (career best 64) , a 23 years left hander who defeated her first round opponent Ma Amila Salerni of Argentina, 6-4, 7-5.

Sania’s coach Farrington said Sania should improve her service and strategy. “In fact we are working on all aspects,” Bahamas-born coach said. In fact Mahesh Bhupathi also of the opinion that Sania should go to the net more often. “I think she should attack the net more. This gives her an advantage as she goes towards the net and sends deep returns which puts her opponents on the defensive.” Farrington, who took over as Sania’s coach seven weeks back, echoed Mahesh’s observation.
