Sania Mirza does India proud, now in round of 32 at US open !! [corrected]

Sania Mirza has done it for India once again. Now Sania is in the round of 32 at the US Open. In a game with more than 50 unforced errors from Sania Mirza, she finally emerged victorious with a score of 6-4, 1-6, 6-4 !!

Sania Mirza won the first set 6-4. But lost the momentum in the second set where she lost the set 1-6. The match was interrupted a few times with Camerin taking injury time to get her knees treated. M. Camerin started the third set strongly with a break of serve leading 2-0. But Sania gained control breaking one after another to lead 4-2 and then in the seventh game with Camerin serving, Sania Mirza fought strongly taking the game through deuces and finally losing it. The match was at 4-3 with Sania serving and had the whole match under her belt.

But Camerin broke the eight game to tie the set 4-4 leading to one more tightly contested match Sania Mirza had to go through. The ninth game with Camerin serving again had to go through deuce once again with Sania finally breaking the game once more. Sania already had more than 50 unforced errors till then proving that she has a lot to improve and can go a long way if she keeps a check on her mistakes.

So all Sania Mirza needed to do was win the tenth game on her own serve to move to the third round !! And she did it !!

Sania Mirza’s serve was definitely a weak point which was attacked everytime. The parallel match with Venus Williams against Kirilenko displayed the huge difference between the standard of the two matches.

This is the first time an Indian women has reached the third round of the US Open. Sania Mirza’s game definitely needs to improve if she wants to win against the stronger players coming up in the next rounds. Sania Mirza plays M. Bartoli of France in the round of 32. And if she can beat her, she will meet Maria Sharapova in the round of 16, ie the pre-quarter finals. This is assuming Maria Sharapova wins her matches.
