Aishwarya Rai in the role of widow in Mangal Pande’ ?

Nobody can say for sure, if Aishwarya Rai would have done a beautiful job in ‘The Rising’, with Amir Khan, which is now played by Amisha Patel. Every thing is uncertain in Bollywood and ‘tali’ or ‘gali’ , the fate of any Bollywood star is decided on a Friday.

In the period film ‘Mangal Pande-The Rising’, Rani Mukherjee played the role of a sex worker and Amisha Patel as a widow Jwala, rescued from becoming a ‘Sati’. The role of Amisha was first offered to Aishwariya Rai, who refused because Ash thought that her role is not a glorious one. Amisha hoped to restore her past glory and of course both Amisha and Rani were contending for more screen presence. However Amisha’s hope of a comeback with this film seem a distant possibility.

But, look at the publicity that was going for the film. Amisha has been virtually sidelined in the press campaign for ‘The Rising’. Amisha, hasn’t tasted success since ‘Gadar’. She could have gathered public sympathy that generally goes for a widow, and walked away with the glory as done by Asha Parekh in ‘Kati Patang’, or Padmini Kolhapure in Raj Kapoor’s ‘Prem Rog’.

On the other hand, Rani Mukherjee had co-starred her second film ‘Ghulam’ with the leading man Amir Khan, and his liking for Rani is also apparent when Aamir earnestly wanted her for ‘Lagaan’. Now, wherever you look , be it TV or the hoardings, Rani is everywhere and is the rani of the publicity for ‘Mangal Pandey’. If you exclude ‘Paheli’, Rani is a story of success and she’s the hottest heroine in Bollywood.
